Kells Christmas Lights & Nollaig Festival Fundraiser

Christmas in Kells has always been about more than lights.

It is the familiar faces in the town, the children waiting to see Santa, the music, the shop windows, the cold evenings spent wrapped up with family and friends, and those little traditions that somehow become part of our lives without us even realising it.

For generations, Kells has had a strong sense of community. People remember gathering together at Christmas, meeting neighbours in the town, hearing the band play, watching the streets come alive and simply enjoying being together.

Those memories matter.

This year, the Kells Christmas Lights Committee is bringing something new to the town with Nollaig, Kells Christmas Festival & Lights, running from 22nd to 29th November 2026.

Across the week we hope to fill Kells with events for all ages, bringing people into the town, supporting local businesses, creating new traditions and, most importantly, giving people a reason to come together.

The week will finish with our Christmas Lights Switch On, one of those evenings where you look around and see generations of Kells families standing side by side.

Everything we do is organised by volunteers.

Every euro raised through this GoFundMe goes towards the Christmas lights, decorations, equipment, entertainment and the costs involved in running the festival and events around the town.

As Kells grows, we want that sense of community to grow with it.

We want the children standing at the lights this year to someday be the adults saying, “Do you remember Christmas in Kells when we were young?”

That is how traditions start.

It might be a new set of lights on a street, a Christmas song playing in the distance, a child seeing Santa, old friends bumping into each other in the town, or someone who was going to stay at home deciding to come out and be part of it.

Those moments become memories.
